City of Sweetwater Wastewater Treatment Plant

CLIENT: City of Sweetwater
LOCATION: Sweetwater, TX

The wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) which served the City of Sweetwater was originally constructed in 1958. Having exceeded the service life for the treatment units, a new 2.2 MGD treatment plant was constructed. The facility was funded under the TWDB CWSRF program. The plant was developed around the Austen-Biojet (ABJ) Intermittent Cycle Extended Aeration System sequencing batch reactor (SBR) process. The treatment system was selected on the basis of cost and operational flexibility while meeting both a 10 milligram per liter (mg/L) biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) and 15 mg/L total suspended solids (TSS) permitted effluent limits. The overall treatment system includes a mechanical bar screen, an influent wastewater pump station, hydraulic grit removal, secondary SBR process, ultraviolet (UV) disinfection, aerobic solids digestion and mechanical solids dewatering. Included in the scope of the project was the preparation of a new TPDES discharge permit and a comprehensive Operations and Maintenance Manual.

“The City of Sweetwater has worked with Enprotec / Hibbs & Todd (eHT) on a number of projects, including a 2.1 MGD wastewater treatment plant, an 8 MGD water treatment plant, water line replacement, water storage, high service water pump station, wellfield development, water line construction, Type IV landfill permitting, an emergency dam safety program and many other projects. eHT is a professional firm of engineers and has worked with us in all phases of projects from planning and bidding to construction management. eHT has been very easy to work with and has worked for us to meet our needs. I would highly recommend eHT as a full-service engineering firm to anyone needing engineering services. My recommendation of eHT is without reservation. I would entrust them with any project.”
